Reina is a first year student at Bronx Community College (BCC). She was born in Manhattan, and is Puerto Rican. She is a LINCT Ambassador.

What do you like best about college?

I like the responsibility, and that you have to stay on top of things. I like that you don’t have someone over your shoulder telling you what to do.

What are your plans after college?

My plan after college is to become a full-time NYPD officer and a part-time social worker working with adolescents.

What are you majoring in at college?

Right now I am majoring in criminal justice.

What do you wish you could have known before coming to college?

I wish I would of known that due dates are very strict in college.  They aren’t as laid back as it was in high school.  In college, when a professor tells you that a paper is due it means it is the deadline.  You have to manage your time to get your assignments done.

How did you come to be a LINCT Ambassador?

My Strive for Success student success leader (SSL) reached out to me by phone and explained the role of an ambassador.  After I heard the job description it felt as if it was something that I could definitely do.

What are some of your short-term goals over the next five years?

My short terms goals are to travel to the Dominican Republic, and I would love to visit Puerto Rico.  The last time I was in Puerto Rico I was three years old!  Also, to earn my bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice after I finish at BCC.

What advice would you give to high school students?

My advice to high school students is to take your senior year seriously.  Don’t let senioritis hit you because it can really affect your studies, especially your GPA, which really matters when applying to college.
